Nicolas Ellis and The Agora Quartet

March 18 7:30 to 9:15 pm

The Trail & District Arts Council presents Nicolas Ellis and The Agora Quartet on March 18, 2023 for a vibrant, energetic chamber music concert as part of the classical series. Enjoy a glass of wine as you enjoy an intimate salon style experience where you will be up close with these talented artists.

The Agora String Quartet is composed of young and talented professional musicians from the Orchestre de l’Agora (OA), who are accompanied by pianist and conductor Nicolas Ellis. Featured on the program, Nature’s Folk Songs, are works inspired by folk and nature from composers Ernest MacMillan, Lili Boulanger, Ann Southam, Marcus Goddard and Dvořák’s Piano Quintet No. 2 in A major.

The ensemble has established a strong reputation on the Montreal music scene through its artistic excellence and its numerous community outreach projects, such as a monthly concert series at the Prison Bordeaux in Montreal and educational workshops with the Share the Warmth Foundation and many more! Nicolas Ellis is the Artistic Director, Conductor and Founder of the Orchestre de l’Agora and currently serves as Artistic Partner to the Orchestre Métropolitain and Yannick Nézet-Séguin. He has performed with renowned artists including Jean-Guihen Queyras, Marie-Nicole Lemieux, Julie Boulianne, Hélène Guilmette, Karina Gauvin, Anthony Roth Constanzo and Charles Richard-Hamelin. He is the recipient of the 2017 Bourse de carrière Fernand-Lindsay and was named Revelation of the Year 2018-2019 by Radio-Canada. He is also the recipient of the Heinz Unger Award 2015 sponsored by the Ontario Arts Council. More recently, he won the Prix Goyer Mécénat Musica 2021.
